Details

This course F172 is the second related to ASHRAE Standard 189.1-2011. It provides an understanding of the requirements, methods for how they would be implemented, and the items needed for compliance verification. Using “hands-on” training of resources from the Standard’s User’s Manual and associated, particular focus is put upon Section 7 Energy Efficiency, The related portions within Section 10 Construction and Plans for Operation, and relevant Appendices. At the completion of this course, the student will: Understand the basis for on-site renewable energy contained in the mandatory and prescriptive path requirements of the Standard; Understand the exceptions allowed for including provisions for future renewable energy system installations and when purchase of green power is allowed in lieu of installing on-site renewable energy; Recognize the gains in overall average building energy efficiency in the U.S. with the adoption of newer energy efficiency requirements of Standard 90.1-2010 and Standard 189.1-2011; Recognize the threshold levels for requiring automatic energy data monitoring of system-level energy consumption; Describe the means for compliance with external shading requirements of fenestration and the climate zones, and where this is required; Describe the two options for equipment efficiency specifications and what the requirements are; Understand the various modifications made to HVAC requirements from Standard 90.1-2010 when complying with Standard 189.1; Recognize the requirement for peak electrical power demand reductions and some options that exist for complying with this requirement; Understand how interior lighting power density allowances are modified from the Standard 90.1-2010 levels; Understand and recognize the procedure for demonstrating compliance with the performance option for energy efficiency; Understand how energy efficiency issues are treated in the commissioning and the plans for operation building sections of the Standard. (Dual), 2.0 PDHs. This course is approved by AIA and GBCI. It can be subscribed to independently, as a part of the Standard 189.1: High-Performance Green Buildings, or Standards eLibrary.
