Details

This course is a part of the course Package Standard 189.1-2011 (Dual). The Standard is for the design of high-performance green buildings, except low-rise residential buildings. Its purpose is to provide minimum requirements for the siting, design, construction, and plan for operation of high-performance green buildings to balance environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, occupant comfort and well-being, and community sensitivity, and support the goal of development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The focus of this course is on Sections 5, 6, 9 and 10 of the Standard. Lesson 1 will cover water use efficiency and site sustainability. Lesson 2 will cover the building’s impact on the atmosphere, materials, and resources; and construction and plans for the operation that are related to water, sites and materials. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to: Understand the basis for defining the building internal water consumption, the criteria specified for compliance with the Standard and know where water consumption measurement devices will be required and the data recording; Recognize when condensate Package systems for water reuse are required on air handling units, determine the requirements for outdoor air flow monitoring devices, and understand minimum day lighting specifications and applications; Know the requirements for low-emitting materials within the project, understand the basis and requirements for determining allowable site locations for the building project, and determine where heat island mitigation techniques are required for roofs, hardscape and building walls as well as the associated requirements for each; Understand how storm water mitigation is achieved in the Standard’s requirements, know the minimum specifications for recycled content, bio-based materials and regionally supplied materials for a building project, and recognize which materials are required to be included in construction waste minimization and the landfill diversion requirements. (Dual), 3.5 PDHs. This course is approved by AIA and GBCI. It can be subscribed to independently, as a part of the Standard 189.1: High-Performance Green Buildings, or Standards eLibrary.
