This course discusses the impacts some architectural decisions have and how these decisions affect sustainable/green project goals. Upon completion of this course you will understand the: cost implications when choosing a site; impact site orientation has on the use of natural resources; roles of key design team members; basis of integrated design and how it affects project costs; importance of building information modeling and how it assists the design team; importance of parametric simulations to determine building loads; effects moisture intrusion has on the building envelope; concept of night precooling. You will also be able to: Describe the importance of natural daylighting; Utilize existing research and sources for information; List the: Performance strategies for specific building types; Cost impacts/savings for specific building types; Design team goals and responsibilities; Project delivery methods and their advantages/disadvantages; Ways in which the HVAC engineer can assist the architect and electrical engineer; Responsibilities the HVAC engineer has, beyond the design of the building.
