This course discusses the impacts architectural decisions have on sustainable/green project goals. 

Upon completion of this course you will understand the: 

  • Cost implications when choosing a site
  • Impact site orientation has on the use of natural resources
  • Roles of key design team members
  • Basis of integrated design and how it affects project costs
  • Importance of building information modeling and how it assists the design team
  • Importance of parametric simulations to determine building loads
  • Effects moisture intrusion has on the building envelope; concept of night precooling. 
You will also be able to: 

  • Describe the importance of natural daylighting
  • Utilize existing research and sources for information
  • List performance strategies for specific building types; cost impacts/savings for specific building types; design team goals and responsibilities; project delivery methods and their advantages/disadvantages; ways in which the HVAC engineer can assist the architect and electrical engineer; and responsibilities the HVAC engineer has, beyond the design of the building.
