This course provides the practitioner an overview of Engineering Ethics, including providing key definitions and explaining the common ethical thought constructs and philosophical analysis tools. Also discussed is the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Code of Ethics, as well as the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Code of Ethics. (Dual), 2.0 PDHs.

This course provides the practitioner an overview of Engineering Ethics, including providing key definitions and explaining the common ethical thought constructs and philosophical analysis tools. Also discussed is ASHRAE's Code of Ethics, as well as the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Code of Ethics. Then, the learner has the opportunity to review several ethical case studies derived from adjudicated decisions from the NSPE, selected with a focus on the duties and decisions faced by those in the Built Environment industry. The learner has to complete at least 4 case studies in the course to complete the course. Finally, the full NSPE details and ruling are shared for each case study. (Dual), 2.0 PDHs.  

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • Identify the roles various professional organizations play in determining professional ethics for Professional Engineers.
  • Recognize the 8 principles of the ASHRAE Code of Ethics.
  • Understand more thoroughly understand the ethical climate as ruled by the NSPE.
  • Satisfy ethics education hours required by some boards of registration for Professional Engineers
