Achieving Zero-Energy Building Design (I-P), 7.0 PDHs (AIA), (GBCI)

This course applies to commercial buildings with case studies that focus on zero-energy K-12 schools. The intended audience is design practitioners looking to improve skills in high-efficiency building design. The course provides a sound skill and knowledge base on the suggested recommendations, strategies, and solution packages for designing and constructing a zero-energy building. Starting with the fundamentals of zero-energy buildings, this course progresses through recommended team-building strategies and critical project planning elements and concludes with multiple modules dedicated to technical building science topics. Two of these technical modules provide in-depth content for architectural and engineering audiences, while others focus on building envelope, HVAC systems, and plug loads. Developed by DOE in collaboration with the AEDG partner organizations (AIA, ASHRAE, IES, USGBC), the course consists of 12 modules plus a mastery exercise. (I-P), 7.0 PDHs. AIA & GBCI approved.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the process and factors to consider when designing a zero-energy building
  • Describe best practices and procedures when it comes to zero-energy building design
  • Know how to find the resources needed to complete a zero-energy building design.

This course is approved by AIA & GBCI. It can be subscribed to independently, as a part of the Sustainability Course Package, or the Advanced Technologies eLibrary.
