Basics of Electricity (Dual), 3.5 PDHs

This course provides the fundamental electrical knowledge needed to understand controls and the use of electrical circuit drawings.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the mathematical relationships between power, voltage, current, and resistance (Ohm’s Law and Power Law)
  • Understanding the importance of capacitance, inductance, power factor
  • Comprehend the uses and functions of relays
  • Examine how transformers work and why they are used in power services and control systems
  • Determine how the motor starter functions
  • Identify the advantages of variable speed drives for fans
  • Become familiar with Boolean logic, and relay logic using electrical circuit drawings (ladder diagrams)
